GREY BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the Grcymouth Borough Council was held last nightPresent : The Mayor, Sheedy, Petrie. Ashton, Joyce, Gieseking, Steer, Bigncll, M'Lean and O’Kane. The Mayor said the meeting was called to consider a proposal to raise a loan by special order to pay off existing order, and he moved accordingly. Seconded by Cr, Sheedy, Mr. Petrie was not quite clear as to the Government providing for the money, but in any caso an advantage would bo gained. Carried. A letter was read from the Harbor Board giving the Council notice to quit. The Mayor moved that a sub-commit-tee consisting of Cr Sheedy, Petrie, Steer, Bignell and the mover bo appointed to • consider what temporary premises can be obtained, and what other arrangements can bo made for a town hall. Seconded by Mr. Gieseking who thought a report was necessary before taking any stops in such a serious matter. Crs Steer and M'Lean desired to select a site at once and by the whole Council. The Mayor said the question was not one of site at present, but of mero report upon what was to be done and what sites were available. Kesolution put and carried. In regard to renting Cobdon Bridge to Harbor Board—or rather allowing it to be used for taking stone over—a good deal of discussion ensued, as to price. The amount paid before was £25 per annum. Some thought that was too much and ultimately upon the resolution of Cr Gieseking the amount was fixed at £l7 per annum. Telegrams from the Premier relative to the return of three of the Grcymouth contingent who had gone to South Africa. Resolved on the motion of Crs Petrie that the Mayor, Mr. Lord, and Captain Morice of the Grcymouth Rifles form a committee to attend to the matter.
