GREY HARBOR BOARD.
A special meeting of the Grey Harbor Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present: —Messrs Kettle (chairman), Sliced}', Guinness, Petrie, Campbell, and Kerr, The Chairman intimated that the Government had agreed to the appointment of Mr Thompson, and he was now in attendance to give any explanation required. The engineer's report and resolutions thereon were as follows : The engineer reported that all the railway lines required to be put in repair; that Cobden quarry would require to be utilised. Eight men had been put on to repair the line. In regard to line held by the Point Elizabeth Company, it was resolved to inform Mr Pitcher to put it in repair, and failing this that the Board's engineer put same in hand at Company's expense. It would be necessary to have four locomotives when the work was in full swing.—Resolved to see what the Government and Mr M'Kay would take for locomotives they possessed. It would be necessary to get new trucks and shed. —Resolved to ask Mr M'Kay to put price on trucks and sheds in his possession. Two cranes would require to be put into Cobden quarry. There were two in the possession of the Board. —Eesolved that the Railway Department be requested to return Board's crane, and that the engineer be asked to arrange with • Mr Christopher for its removal and erection of crane in Cobden quarry, and that engineer report upon cost of fitting up derrick in Grcymottth quarry to fit it for use. Iron bark piles would be required for carrying out South breakwater. Discussion ensued as to the suitability of New Zealand timber. Mr Thompson said that iron bark was imperative. Eesolved that timber required —namely piles for South and North tips for wharf piling and erection of ,ji£w bridge over lagoon. The offices held by the Borough Council were required as soon as possible. Eesolved that Borough authorities be given a month's notice.
In regard to the bridge over lagoon, Mr Thompson said lie had not yet had time to look into the matter, but would do so before next meeting. Cobden bridge would be required for carrying stone over. Resolved that Borough Council bo approached on the matter. The following tenders were opened and dealt with : BUILDING TEN TRUCKS. W. P. Sullivan (accepted) ... £47 10 Bartlett and Bowman ID 10 Guago and Mister 50 0 P. Casey 95 0 R, Scoflicld (informal) ... 55 0 Gimn and MKenzie (informal) 75 0 BLACK BIRCH TILES. John Mnllins £SOO 17 0 Johnßallott 512 2 0 J, Cain (informal) 14/- per 100 feet. . SUPPLY OP TIMBER, Timber Company, red pine 7/6. black birch 11/-, accepted. Total £207 15s. The tender for sleepers was declined, and the engineer instructed to arrange for purchase. The tender of the Timber Company for twelve months supplies was accepted.
