Da Wet flogs Boer Peace Commissioners.
He Shoots a British Subject,
Several Boer Commandoes Defeated.
London, January 14. Lord Kitchener reports that three agents of the Orange Peace Committej were taken prisoners Co Dj AVet's laager near Lindley oa the 10th and all were flogged by De Wet's orders. One British subject was also shot. 1400 Boers at daybreak of the 12th attacked Zaurfontein and Kaalfontein, but were repulsed and driven in an easily direction. Cavalry are pursuing them. A Field Cornet was captured and several killed. The British casualties were six, Kaalfontein was shelled for six hours' The garrison of 140 maintained an exceptionally gallant defence. The Boers attacked Zeerusfc on the 7 th, but were repulsed. Six British were wounded. Boyes defeated the Boers at Senekal, killing Commandant Dupruz and eight burghers. The British losses are nil. A Daily Telegraph representative interviewed Leyds and Fischer at Brussels. Both declare that the struggle will continue, and are confident that the Boers will regain their independenceThe Irish Bifles surprised a laager at Kopjeallen, near Ventersburg road, capturing 300 horses and a number of cattle at Dordrecht.
The Wodehouse Volunteers expelled tho Boers from a strong position near Barkley East. The Boers retired, the Cramberg Lancers pursuing them. Wryberg, the Commander, escaped by seizing a native's valuable horse. Several drafts of cavalry sail from England for the Cape immediately. The Morning Post states that the raising of colonial police is temporarily abandoned, the War Office preferring the enlistment of Yeomanry. Raiders have appeared at Daneslaate, 28 miles north of Matjesfontoin. The disloyalists are creating confusion, by the circulation of false information respecting the movements of the raiders.
