The trade of the port of Greymouth in so far as exports are concerned, shows that this district is rapidly advancing. Total £125,25(5 The two chief items enumerated in the last line are hides £3,110, and auriferous ores £4,250. When we take the years 1898, 1899, and last year, very steady progress is shown, the exports being : —■ Year 1898 £231,751 „ 1800 314,312 „ 1000 425,150 Figures such as the foregoing require little comment, an increase of £190,395 in two years, or nearly ninety per cent, shows marvellous growth and development, and it must also be born in mind that the stoppage of the Blackball mine in November makes the total less by about £5,000 that it otherwise would have been. The present year, so far as can be forecast, will we believe show even a larger proportion of development.
