DISASTROUS FIRE AT AUCKLAND.

Auckland, January 13._ A fife occurred in Customs street this morning, causing the total destruction of several warehouses. The total Ga-tf'S'S o is estimated at about £IOO,OOO. The fire started at Bond and Bell’s warehouse and spread to Owen and Co’s and L. L). Nathan’s bonded store, all three being destroyed with their contents as well also as Wheeler’s business in Nathan’s buildings and Tucker’s bakery powder factory in Owen’s buildings. Nathan’s was insured for ,651.000 in the Norwich Union, and ho estimates his loss at £20,000 above that amount. Owen and Co’s insurance is £2,700‘ Wheeler £I,OOO. The other insurances are not ascertainable. The firemen were quickly at work after the cm break, but were unable to suppress the Ibunes owing to some trouble with the water through the bursting of a main pipe, and salt water had to be used, the accident causing considerable delay. A woman and a boy were injured by the falling of a telegraph post, the latter seriously.
