The 10th of December witnessed the tenth auniversary of Sir John Forrest's Premiership of Westralia. By retaining office for this lengthy period the Forrest Administration have established a record, which is unique in character. Of the original Cabinet only Sir John himself remains. In the ten intervening years he has had no less than thirteen colleagues, which is in itself another record for Australia. Mr E. Harben Young, a son of Mr E. A. A Nelson resident, who has just returned from a visit to Golden Bay and the region of Farewell Spit, informs the Evening Mail that the slime, or nidus of fish spawn, which was such a nuisance and cause of loss in and around Nelson harbour and Blind Bay, is as prevalent as ever in Golden Bay. It can bo seen as far as the eye can reach along the shore and at sea. and its phosphorescence at night furnishes a weird spectacle. A volunteer case was heard at Kaiapoi on Monday by an ex-Major, Counsel engaged were both captains. The litigants were a captain and an ex-lieutenant. The witnesses included two lieutenants, two sergeants, and two troopers. The Clerk of the Court and one of the reporters were ex-volunteers, and in the body of the Court was a volunteer among others present who joined the New Zealand forces in 18G0. The milking record for the Taranaki coast, or, in fact, for New Zealand, has (says the Dairyman) been put up by a Plains settler and his wife, who, without any help except what could be given by a twenty-month-old infant, milked 79 cows twice daily. It is a fact, and can be vouched for, that he delivered on an average 2000 pounds of milk a day at the factory, and not a penny was spent in wages last year.
