An Ungracious Message.

The Mayor of Broken Hill replied to the invitation of the Sydney Comtaffnwealth Celebrations Committee SS follows “Thanks for the offor' but I have something more,-important to do than attend drunk.” The “Barrier Miner 1 ’ says: “Unfortunately, the boorish message sent back can only, theoretically, bo rgarded as a Broken Hill official answer. It, therefore, becomes necessary to say that Mr Wright once more entirely misrepresented the public feeling. That the people who do not belong to the labour bodies feel much abhorence at the spirit of the message need hardly be said, and that the labour bodies have no sympathy with it cither was sufficiently shown the other day, when the Miners’ Association willingly and gladly chose ten of its members to officially represent that body in Sydney, Wo shall be surprised if others do not pity us the possession of a “chief citizen” who cannot conceive of rejoicing without at once thinking of a drunken orgy.”
