WESTPORT HARBOR BOARD & RAILWAY DEPARTMENT.

The Westport Harbor Board and the ; Railway Department do not appear to get on very well together if wo may judge by the following discussion that recently took place : 0. N. Greenland, Secretary and Treasurer, hid a lengthy statement before the Board, showing the financial position, as between tho Railway Department and Board. Mr. Reeves said the Department was proceeding with reckless extravagance. Mr. M'Kenzio said the position was very serious indeed, and required very close attention. Idiotic school boys would not spend money in tho way the Ba'lwaj Department was doing. As long as the Board gave them money, the same thing would go on. The Chairman thought tho maintenance charges were very high. Mr. O'Regan said the proper course was to make representations in tho proper qua,rter. He did not believe in bellicose attitude. Ho noticed the Railway Department usually got what they wanted in the end.

The Secretary said tho Department had got £II,OOO thi3 year and now wanted £10,171 additional. The Chairman said the amounts asked were those agreed on in Wellington with Mr. Ronayne by Mr. Scanlon and himself. The extra goods shed accommodation was the only additional item. He pointed to the extra cost of wagona conversion.

Mr. O'Regan proposed, that Messrs M'Kenzie, Reeves and the mover be appointed a deputation to wait on Mr, Ronayne at Wellington, to look into the matters. Seconded by the Chairman and carried

Mr. M'Kenzie suggested that the deputation should bo authorised to inform Mr. Ronayne that tho Board would take out a Supreme Court injunction against him.
