GREYMOUTH CONTINGENT FOR SOUTH AFRICA.

It was intended to have sent the Greymouth portion of the Sixth Contingent for South Africa away with the Mawiiera, hut it is now doubtful if this can be dons ; Sergeant-Major , Barfett—having to-day received the following telegram from Captain Wolfe of Nelson “ Just advised from Wellington, that only thirty men will be accepted for the Nelson District. Have wired pointing out sine cf district, and wait orders,” As Nelson d' trict includes the whole of the West it is evident that thero is but little dunce of the .18 so far passed being allowed to go. In any case their is little chance now of their getting away before the commence merit of next week. The following are the selections made and order of selection : —F. Cotton, A. Jenson, G. Wilson, J. M’Mahon, R. Glen, E. Hayes, J. Linklater, E. Lahnan, C. Mitchcl, James and John Morgan, J. Howe, J, Haines, R. M’Gowan, H. Shilton, H. Linklater. H. Chandler, andG. P. Hancld. The two brothers Morgan, who are selected, have already two brothers m previous contingents, and a fifth brother volunteered. One of the brothers was captured by the Boers, but subsequently was rescured. The eighteen above named were entertainedby Lieutenant Lutz at the Wharf Hotel last night, were a most enjoyable evening was spent. We shall possibly hear something from Wellington to-night or to-morrow, but the absence of Mr Seddon on the present occasion will bo felt.
