THE GOLDEN BAY ARGUS. (UPHOLD THE RIGHT.) FRIDAY 25th DECEMBER 1885.
Parliament lias been further prorogued until the fifteenth of March next. Politics
at prevent are at a discount, Horse-racing Athletic Sports and Regattas being the chief topics of interest. If it were not for an occasional post-sessional address being reported as having been delivered by some energetic Member, one would scarcely credit that such a short period had elapsed since the lively times of the West
Coast Railway discussion in the House. It is very evident, however, that these lively times will be again experienced when Parliament re-assembles. Sir Julius C ogel’s recent address to the Southerners has supplied plenty of food for thought during the inter-regunm, and already the leading papers of the Colony are determining the result, some favorable to the Ministry, others predicting their immediate downfall, if they persist in the policy foreshadowed by the Colonial Treasurer’s address.
A ten million loan ! Leaps and hounds with a vengeance ! The very thought of this is enough to cause dreams of endless
years ol prosperity and happiness, hut, and this is the idea which will occupy men’s minds for the next few months — if things don’t turn out as Sir Julius predicts, what will the consequence be?
