Crackers!
Retrenchment!
Or otherwise ! Laying off roads that will never be made !
Buying land with the Ratepayers mon
For goodness sake, tell us all about it and don't keep us any longer in suspense ! Oh where, oh where is that road layed off - , Oh where, oh where can it be ?
It is layed off my boy on the Pakawau side, and the land belongs to Harve-e !
But I thought that line was going to be the main road between Collingwood and Pakawau !
So did everybody else sonny—except the retrenchment party—who have ordained otherwise !
M by the thing will never be used ! Never be made, you mean ! But who ‘pays the piper’ of the prelim inary expenses ?
'The Board' I suppose ! What, the ‘Black-board’ ? 1 hat 11 do now, you’re getting too cheeky ! !
Hon is it you never have a crack at the local magnates down Takaka-way ? W ell, you see, they're too awfully Conservative down there ! Hide their lights under a bushel and all that sort of thing ! Don t advertise their doings sufficiently !
brightened of being criticised, eh ? Perhaps so ! Perhaps they would’nt see it-, if they were !
,Tu?t so. ignorance is bliss, &c. ! I see you’re going to have a Public Hall in spite of prognostications to the contrary !
better believe it sonny! Management in the right hands this trip! No falling through from scarcity of entries this event!
W by, the thing won’t pay ! There you are again ! I suppose you’ve borrowed that expression from somebody as wise as yourself! Take my advice and return it. You’re only sorry that all the shares are taken up and you can’t have any ! lon’ll be glad to buy in at cent-per cent yet! As soon as the Hall is completed there’ll he a new industry started here that has’nt been dreamt of yet 1
What’s that, pray ? Have nt time just now, “au revoir.
