The Council of the Chamber of Com-, merce intends to join in the agitation for the completion of the Northern Trunk line, and issue circulars to the City members asking them to "do all in their power to push the matter on. The Council is almost unanimously against the Stratford route. Auckland, September 22, The Secretary of the Auckland and Taranaki Railway League has received the following telegram in reply to a request asking the Hon. A, J. Cadman to attend a meeting of the Auckland and Taranaki members : — " Until it can be clearly proved that the central line will provide most settlement, I shall adhere tt> niv present opinion in favour of the Stratford route. Outside of this I cannot see how the central route will improve the present commnnication between Taranaki and Auckland."
