Football News.

A football match of considerable interest will be played to-morrow afternoon at the local football ground between the Wanganui Pirates and the Unionists Football Club. The visitors are the champion juniors of Wangauui this year, so a good exposition of football may be looked for by all lovers of the game. A charge of sixpence will be made at the gate, the proceeds to go towards the visitors' travelling expenses, ladies being admitted free.

The nsual weekly meeting of the Manawatu Rugby Football Union was held at the Royal Hotel, Palmerston North, last evening. It was decided to play a friendly game, North v. South, on Saturday next, 24th inst., to wind up the season. The ground was drawn for, Palmerston being selected for the match. Messrs H. G. Mo.shead and G. M. Mitchell were appointed to select the Northern team from the Awahnri, Colyton, Feildiug and Sandon Clubs. The Southern team has been selected from the Alhambra and Palmerston Clubs as follows : — R. Matbeson, Bennett, W. Robinson, Emmett, Podevin (captain;, J. Rush, Perrie, Hogan, Wingate, McMinn, Speedy, N. Bash, Matheson, Smith, Sullivan ; emergencies Dickie, Manning, Rakena, Deßlois, Eyre, Nash. Mr F. Purnell was appointed referee for the match.

The Colyton Football Club held their annual ball on Friday night, when about forty couples were present, including visitors from Feilding and Palmerston. The Hall was nicely decorated with Nikau palms, and the floor was in first class order for dancing, which was kept up till the small hours* of the morning. Mr Grantham supplied the eatables, which everyone declared to be excellent. Mr J. Stuart and Miss Stuart supplied the music which wa9 all that could be desired. Mr T. Dunn made an efficient M.C. The ball was a great success and one of the most pleasant gatherings ever held in Colyton. The committee wish to thank those ladies who kindly assisted in laying the tables and waiting at same.

The Wanganui Boys' High School defeated the Institute senior team at Pulmerston yesterday by seven points to nil.
