THE STOCK MARKET.

Messrs Nolan Tonks and Co., of Hawera, report: — At Eltham on the 11th inst., we had a fair entry of cattle. Bidding for steers was dull, but for dairy cows and springers there was a good enquiry. At Hawera on tbo 14th inst., fully the advertised number of cattle came forward, most of which were sold Sheep were in good demand, and without! an exception all were disposed of. At the sale of J. Simpson's dairy herd. Cows were of £»ood quality and condition, and the demand was very brisk, with an average of £6. On the 9th inst., we held our monthly Horse Fair, with a big supply. Draught and good hacks were in dc tnand. We quote — At Eltham— Year lings, mixed, 9s to 14s; 12 to 15-months steers, 25s ; store cows, 25s ; springers, I' 3 10s to £4 10s ; milch cows, (near profit) £ r > to £5 10s ; quiet heifers in calf, £2 Is to £2 7s 6d. At Hawera— Weaners, 7s ; yearlings, 12s to 15s ; 18 month** steers, 25s to 30.s ; 2 year steers, 31s to 345 ; 2to 3-year steers, £2 12s 6d ; 3-year steers, £3 lls ; store cows, 24s to 30s ; fat cows, L3to L 3 ss ; fat bullocks, (light weights) L 5. Sheep — Empty ewes, 5s 3d ; ewes in lamb, 7s 9d ; cull ewes, 3s; lambs, (small) 4s 7d ; store wethers, 8s 3d ; forward wethers, 9s 9d. During the week we have placed privately a large number of lambs from (shorn )6s to 6s sd ; woolly) 8s Id. We have still a good enquiry.

R. E. Beckett's Marton stock report : —Only a few cattle came forward, but the yards were well filled with sheep. The attendance was good and bidding was brisk, especially for wether*. About 5000 sheep were yarded, most of which found buyers. I quote : —

Cattle Fat heifers L3ssto L 3 108 ; yearlings, 16s ; fat bullocks, heavy, L 6 7s 6c ; milch cows, Ly 10s to L 4 15s.

Sheep — Forward store wethers, 7s lOd to 10s 8d ; woolly lambs, 7s Id ; lambs, is 2d to 63 7d ; lat wethers, 11s 4d ; awes in lamb, 8s ; forward ewes, 4d (id to 5s Cd ; fat ewes, 6s to 89 2d.
