Dairy Produce.
The price of butter hag itiproved con« siderably since the middle of January, when it was 8s per cwt lower than in 1897 at the corresponding period. At the end of last week the top price of Danish batter was £5 16s \er cwt, and. that of Australian and New Zealand. 4.5 6s. Thus instead of being lower tbau it was last year, Danish is pow 4s higher i arid Australia and New Zealafij 10s higher. The improvement, however, has not extended ;o imported cheese, which remains extremely low is value. The top prices are .£2 3s per cwt for Canadian, or 17s less than a year ago; £2 2s for American, or 17s less; £2 Is for New Zealand or lKs less. The most curious fact in connection with these low prices is that tuey do not appear to have affected good qualities ot English cheese iv the slightest degree, as the best Cheddar n selling up to iii 10s per cwt, aud the choicest Cheshire up to JC3 16s. T Jese tiguiei Bectu to show that imports of cheese, which have been vevy h< avy lately, have beeu in execs.) if tle di tniod while the Hone sup; ly < f the best brands is deficient rather bau other, wise.
