Telegraph. Press Association. Copyright Wellington, April 2. The Wellington Rugby Union's annual report shows : — Last season was a satisfactory one, out of nine matches played only those against Wairarapa and Auckland were lost. The next annual contests with Canterbury and Wairarapa will be played in Wellington. So far as is known these will be the only home fixtures. It is Wellington's turn to visit Auckland, Taranaki and Hawke's Bay. Should the Otago Union make a fixture with Wellington— an annual one— the Wellington Union will have to seriously consider the question of abandoning the matches with some of the smaller Unions, as it is financially not strong enough to play all and sundry. .Receipts, L 572 ; expenditure, !L567. New Zealand Rugby Union's annual j report : —Referring to the proposed visit of au English team to the colonies the i report says : The terms sketched out by the New South Wales Union were not such as the committee considered it advisable to accept. The matter, however, has not yet assumed a sufficiently definite shape to enable the committee to speak authoritatively on the chance of an English team visiting New Zealand. Apropos of the punishment of certain members of the New Zealand team for a flagrant breach of good conduct while in Auckland, the committee urges that the Rugby game is dependent for its welfare on the interest taken in it by the public and press. It impresses on the affiliated unions the necessity for assisting the New Zealand Union in every way possible so as to prevent the occurrence of snch an incident as that alluded to and thus preserve the great interest displayed by the public in the game. The season's operations show a profit of L 59.
