Great Maori Meeting.

Fully two thousand Maoris are assembled at Waihi, a settlement on the Waikato river opposite Huntly, to discuss Henare Kaihau's Maori" Council Bill, which proposes 'to establish a Native council of 56 members, 14 to be nominated by the Government and the rest by the Natives, to deal with the whole question of Maori lands. Mahutu opened the meeting, which is attended by representatives from all parts of the North Island, The total cost of the meeting will run into many hundreds of pounds. Mr Carroll arrives to-day and the Premier is expected at the end of next week.
