The Feilding Star, Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette. Published Daily. SATURDAY, MARCH 19, 1898. THE MONEY MARKET.

The JNew Zealand Trade Review reports that there is no alteration in the nioufty market, money being still plentiful and rates of interest without any noticeable change. Bank rates are without, any variation, and in the open market money is readily available for mortgage advance at 5 per cent and at, 4£ for gilt edged securities. In some well-informed quarters there is a disposition to anticipate a hardening movement, but, apart from the contingency of war, we must confess we iook for a continuance of low rates. The heavy demand for gold has no doubt been a disturbing element, but in view of the substantial increase in the world's production of the precious metal, and the enormous accumulation of money in the Home country, we cannot regard the disturbance as other than temporary. All good sound investment shares are well sought after and the best classes of freehold property are in demand as investments.
