Bush Fires in Australia.
o Telegraph, Press Association. Copyright Melbocbne, JaDuary 15. Later reports as to the bush fires in Gippsland state that 108 families have been burnt out and reduced to. destitution. Many narrow escapes are reported. The damage is roughly estimated at jG2"iO,OOO. There are enormous losses in stock. The townships Neerim (100 inhabitants 80 miles from Melbourne) andThorpedale (200 inhabitants, 92 miles from Melbourne) have been practically destroyed. Destructive fires are raging in many other districts. Tins Day. 15ush fires have rendered 50 families homeless. A large number of thriving farmers are ruined in Gippsland. A public meeting will be held to-day to take steps to raise a relief fund. A man named Connally was overtaken by the fire and perished.
