The Rinderpest.

It is stated that the Victorian authorities have framed regulatioss prohibiting the importation of lira stock from Africa, with the view of preventing the introduction of rinderpest. Ab we bave more than one pointed oat, it is of the first importance that this terrible disease shall be prevented from being introduced into this colony, and uniform intercolonial action seems necessary to meet the danger. The Cape Governmaßt is doing all in its power to stay tho progress of tb6 plague, without avail. The news cabled fro on Australia a few days ago, that the Edingtoa systen of inuoculation had proved successful, appears to be a repetition of a statement published as long ago as August or September, and which is not supported by the latest mail news, dating from Cape Town to the end of October. At the latter date inoculation by Edington's system had been sospended, h iving failed in the Trannkei, while as regards other districts the reports were conflicting. Koch's vaccine was said to bave saved in some districts about threefourths of the cattle treated, but unsatisfactory results elsewhere had led to the suspension of that treatment also. It appears that deipite the sci«occ sod money that have been spent on investigations and experiments, the rinderpest must still be numbered amongs> tbe incurable diseases.
