Awahuri Concert.
Last Wednesday ao entertain ruent w»« given at Awnhnri for wbicb (be promoters tuust he congratulated, for the programme produced was an excellent one. Tbe audience was not so large as usnal but wan highly appreciative. Quite a new feature in connection with these local entertainments was the production of two particularly iutercfttiog comedies, the costumes and appointments of which would have been creditable to professionals, while tbe way in wbicb tbe performers acted left notbint: to be desired. Tbe characters in " Oourtßhip under Difficulties " were sustained by Minn Robertson and Messrs rioter* and D. A. Smith ; in " Viola's Answer" Mish Robertson, and Mennrs Rogers, Robson, J. Fergu.ssou and J. Garrity took the partH. The man aye nieut was in tbo band* of Mr D. A. Smith to whom great praise is due. Tbe performauce w«b opened by an overture from Mrs Knight. Then followed Mr Tarrant with " Tbo Warrior Bold"; Mr D. A. Smith, recitation, " Tbe Bridge " ; Miss Richards, a song ; Mr Summervillu, concertina n»!o, "Jessie's Dream, " (encorcdy ; Mr Robson, Chinese song, in character, (encored) ; Mr Collingwood " Song of the Steeple " ; Mr Adamn, " Where art tliou Alice," Mr (i. Mendn, "Sweet bunch of daisies," an an encore, " Benches in tlio park " ; Miss E. Knight, "Doris" with skirt dance (encored); drama, " Courtship undor diflicultins ; " Interval 1 Pianoforte duet, Misaen Knight and Richards ; Mm Adams and Mr Rogers, duet, "Money matters"; Mr D. A. Smith, recitation, " Scene from Henry VIII " ; Mi«s Richards, " Love's Serenade " ; Mr Colliugwood, " Cricket on tbe hearth " ; Mrs Adams and Mjhs Rogers, " Klow on thou shining river " ; Mr Summt-rvillti, concertina solo (en* cored) ; drama. " Viola's itimwrr." To wards the cuncluwion the chairman, Mr Tarrant, thanked «11l concerned, parti cularly thone visiting friendn who so kindly helped with tho pro^r.unmo. At the (sonclusion a very enjoyable dance was held, music being supplied by Misß Brent and Messrs Staff an and Summerville.
