Speaking at Bristol, Sir Michael Hicks Beach said if Great Britaiu ignored the responsibility of controlling the Indian frontier, Russia would cer i tainly intervene aod approach within dangerous proximity to the frontier. Tho British operations would cost £1,500,000 sterling. Referring to the Soudan campaign, he said the forces under General Kitchener would advance upon Khartoum when a fitting opportunity pro tented itself. Tbe British Government intended to ( ask Parliament to pass a vote in aid of defraying both tbe Indian and Soudan campaigns, Tbe British Medical Journal states the ose of the Rontgen Rays is proving of tho greatest assistance in the treat ment of gunshot wounds amongst the troops on tbo Indian frontier. Calcutta, December 11. It is estimated here that tbe Indian Frontier war will cost the Government 85,000,000 rupees.
