Marton Sports.
The Marton Athletic Sports , postponed from Novembor 9th owing to the wet weather, was beld on the Marton Park yesterday when the weather was beautifully fine. There was a very fair attendance, there being aboit 700 persons present. The courteous secretary, Mr A. lions, ably assisted by Messrs E. F. Iveson and A. Tbeed, did all that was possible for them to do in making the sports pass off successfully ; all tbe other officers of tbe clnb also being atteutive to their duties. Fc Mowing are the results : —
100 yds Boys' Race.— W Ingle, 1 ; E Thurston, 2; G Head 3. Only starters. Maiden Race, 150 yds; first prize 80s; second prize 10a— Solomon :. ; D Allan 2; E Tamplin 3. Five started. Won by about a yard. Time. 17atcs.
lUOyds Handicap; first prise 90s; second prizo 30a ; third prize 10a. — First beat- A R Toy 9yds. 1; W J Halkett 7yds, 2; Ii Leslie (snsumed name) Byds, 3 ; only starters, won by about two yards ; time 10 2-5 sees. Second heat — L» Allan 10yds, 1; J R Barker 7yds, 2; F V Loreridge 9yds, 8; oulf starters; won easy ; time iOsece, Third beat E Fowler Byds 1 ; E Tauiplin flyds 2; J N McKiniioa 7yds 3; also started— H W Giestu 10yds ; close finish ; time 10 1-5 sees. Foarth beat -J A Bel! 7yds I ; C G Wilson 9yds 2; G Flower lOydi 3; nuly starters; close finish ; time 10 2 5 Bees. This race was robbed of all interest owing to the heats having been drawn from the nominations and not from the- atarters ; bad the drawing of the beats been left nntil the acceptances were reccircd ther* would bave been two good races, whereas there were four practically uninteresting events. Fiaal heat D Allan 10yds 1 ; C G Wilson 9yds 2 ; A K Toy 9yds 3 ; also started— W J Kalkct:, E Fowler, C Taraplin, and J R Barker. This resulted in v good race aud a close finish between the placed men ; time lOsecs.

Two mile bicycle race ; first prise £2 10s, second £1. third 10s— W Franklin 150 yds, 1; T H Richards, 100 yds, 2; H Roes, 160 yds, 3 ; also started— J R \Yiugate scratch, M S Bruuette scr, T G Kitchen 25yds, C E Gibbons 160 yds, E S'gnall 220 yds; tbn three scratch men never Lad any chance in this race, but the placed men made a jjood fiaisb. 220 Yards Hordle Race— First prize £3, second JBI. — D J Malone, 20yds, 1 ; D Allan 25yds, 2; A W Watt* scr, 3. Also started- G C Cameron 10yds, W J Halkett 14yds. The first and second men made a close finish, Haliett falling over a hurdle which also brought Watts down in tbe rebound. Time SOsecs.
Teams Bicyclo Race.— Wa nganui Club team, Lyou, Franklin, and titaokwood 24 points, 1 ; Palmerston teati, Kitchen Wineate, and Richards, 21 points, 2 ; a Marton team also competed In this race Kitchen, Stackwood and Ross bad nasty spills.
