Labour Troubles at Home.

Tbe railway men, finding tbat the various railway companies are uniting to resist their demands for shorter hours and otber concessions, have applied to Mr C. T. Ritchie, President of the Board of Trade, to arrange for a conference with the employers to discuss tbe dim* culty. In the event of tho Conference between the employers and the engineers failing to effect a solution of the difficulties, tbe London Trades ConociJ suggests that a National Convention of labour organisations should be held. The workmen's leaders predict a rejection of the terms insisted upon by the employers at the Engineers' Conference. The Engineers' Society is taking a ballot amongst 60,000 members now in work on tbe question of an increased strike levy and shorter hours. Tbe Executive Committee is also appealiing for further strike fands. The allied trades executive concur with the attitude adopted by the engineers.
