"We understand the joint committer set up to deal with agricidtural, p lateral, industrial and stock matters, haa been sitting for the past three days, considering matters pertaining to the Slaughtering and Inspection Bill. It is understood that up to the present the provif.ions oi the Bill have not been considered, as the committee have been engaged taking expert evidence mainly bearing on twoprincipal points contained in the n.easure — viz., Ist, grading meat for expert, the prooess of freezing, and the details of th* meat trade generally; 2nd, the diseases which exist and are alleged to exist \« the> flocks and herds of the colony. *Dn the. first question expert evidence was,ciitah2*dl from the managers of the gseat meati companies in the south and fcrom \\ elling^ ton. and in addition a huge nun ber oC letters and reports were received from person's engaged in the meat trudu in all pari* of the oniony.
