Tbe Queensland Government Meteorologist (Mr Wragge) aud party have left to establish tbe high pressure abser vatory on Mount Kosciusco, tbe h igh peak near the Victorian border. They are experiencing a rough time, and were detained half way up the moantain by a heavy snowstorm. This Day. Good rains are falling along the coast and extending 800 miles inland with tbe heavy Boutb-east gale on the coast. Hobart, December 6. The lighthouse-keeper at Seven Islands reports taking charge of the ketch Esther with only a lad on board, tbe master and mate having been lost overboard. This Day. It has been ascertained that tbe fatality which occurred on the vessel Esther which was picked up witb only a lad on board was tbe result of a quarrel. The captain and mate quarreled aud fell overboard. The vessel was running before the wind with her centre board np. The boy tried to get back to the men, bot the craft would not stay.
