Bate, 24, Lambton quay, Wellington. Temporary Offices : 11, Brandon street, Wellington. The Company is to be formed for the purpose of acquiring from the present owners the newly-erected Gas Works at Feilding, together with the rights and concessions appertaining thereto, and of carrying on the business of gas manufacturing in the ordinary mode of Gas Compauies, and for the other purposea stated in the Memorandum of Association. The works are erected upon a freehold section of half an acre, situated in close proximity to the Railway Station, and in a low lying portion of the town, ensuring both a thoroughly good pres* sure of gas in the mains and also low cost of cartage of material. The works are of ample capacity, modern in design, and the object aimed at in the erection has been to ensure the best possible material aod workmanship. The town of Feilding is well known as one of the soundest in the district, situated in the centre of a splendid farming country, occupied by the best class of settlers, and possessing all the elements necessary for the maintenance of sound, steady progress. Escaping, as it has, the temporary excitement of a boom, it has also escaped the permanent depression which so invariably follows. In gauging the rev«nue • producing qualities of a gas undertaking it is of the tirst importance to consider what class of people compose the population of the town which is supplied. Id Feilding the best possible conditions prevail in this respect. The commercial undertakings are sound and prosperous, and it may be said that every resident is in a position to be not only a consumer, but a profitable con- j sumer of gas. There are a number of small industries where gas as a motive power can be profitably used, and where the introduction of gas engines is already being provided for. > There is also an exceptionlly good ' prospect for gas heaters and cookers, one of the most profitable branches of a gas company's business- The price of firewood in the town is already high, and is getting higher year by year as the sup- j plies iv the near vicinity are exhausted, while there are a large number of residents to whom the convenience is alone a sufficient inducement. As investments it is well known that Gas Companies hold the highest place, experience having shown that as divi. dend paying concerns they possess the most favourable probabilities, while for ! absence of speculative risk they are unsurpassed by any class of business in the world, such a thing as the failure of a Gas Company being practically unknown. The following figures, showing the position of the smaller Gas Companies in this colony are a good indication of the safely profitable character of this business : — Last Capital Dividend. Paid-up Thames 5 per cent. £18,965 Greymouth ... 10 „ £10.000 Lyttelton ... 8 „ £10,000 Timaru 8 „ £14,000 New Plymouth ... 10 „ £8,000 Ashburton ... 6 „ £8.000 Gisborne 10 „ £11,400 Palmerston North 6 „ £21,000 Wanganui ... 8 „ £14,000 It is to be noted that the number of towns suitable for the profitable installation of gas undertakings is now extremely small, so that opportunities of coming into this desirable class of investment at par are now exceedingly rare. The price fixed by the vendors as the purchase money for their interest in the fixed plant, mains, land, <fee, with concessions, is £7000. • The provisional directors, vendors, and their friends will apply for 2000 shares. The amount of capital to be subscribed has been fixed so that after payment for the plant, mains, land, &c., at the purchase money above stated, and also for the stock of reserve plant, gas fittings, stoves, meters, &c, at cost price, together with preliminary expenses, an ample balance, estimated at £800, will remain in hand as working capital, so that the company will not be hampered by the necessity of any outside financial arrangements, Prospectuses and application forms may be obtained at the offices of the Company, 11, Brandon street, Wellington, or from the Bankers or Broker.
