FEILDING J.C. SPRING MEETING.

The Feilding Jockey Clab were again somewhat unfortunate yesterday for their first day's racing so far as the weather was concerned. The me rning broke cloudy with a high wind blowing, and during the morning a few slight showers of rain fell, bat towards the middle of the day the clouds rosti and the sun shone out, the high wind, how* ever, continued to blow and mads the outing anything but pleasant, and interfered to some extent with fast times being recorded. There was a very fine attendance, upwards of 1200 persons being present. The fields on the uhole were large and the racing was Tory good . The finishes as a rule being fairly close. The closest finish of the day was in the Hack Flat when Indian Shot and the The Miller fought out the finish, the former winning by a Bbort head. The horses which won were well supported and consequently the dividends were not large, the best being £5 16s on Langdale in the Flying. Leda appropriated the big money, St. Andrew's Handicap, by a length after a good race. The course was in very good order. The only mishap during the day was in the Kiwitea Stakes, when Sedge brook tripped and fell, but neither hone nor rider was injured. Mr T. Cameron appeared as starter on the Fe lding course for the first time, using Mr Saywell's starting machine, and he effected very creditable starts. Mr J. E. Henry's handicapping was, on the whole, satisfactory as evidenced by the large cumber of acceptors. Mr Hartgill gave satisfaction as judge, while the vt.rious officials all did their best to popularise the gathering and make everything pass off successfully. As usual, the lion's share of the work fell to the courteous and efficient Secretary, Mr E. Good bebere ; Mr O. Cooper acted as clerk of the scales, assisted by Mr L. Gorton ; Mr J.
