Marton Snorts.
The Marton Athletic Clob were very unfortunate yesterday in tlie matter of weather for their sports. A heavy rain eomnenoed to fall on Monday night and eon tinned daring the early morning yesterday, with the result that the track in places was under water and the committee, who met at 8 a.m., decided to poetpone the ■ports until Wednesday, Deo--Btb, wh»n it is to be hoped the club will be favored with better weather. It did not rain during the day but n strong gale prevailed which made it anything bat please ot for holiday-makers. As the day wore on the wind dried tp the track somewhat, and a few ecratcli races were arranged during the afternoon to assist to pass the time away. Naturally the visitors who had travelled to Marton lrocn Feildiog, Palmerston, Waiiganai, and other places were disappo nted at th» postponement of the sDorta, hat the comtnitlee, under the circumstances, acted in the best interests of all concerned. Tbe> scratch races were won as follows: — Half-mile cycling— C. E. Gibbons 1, S. G. NortboverS, Bell S. lOOydt flatBurr 1, C. Wilson 2, Cuff 3. Mile cycling —Gibbons 1. 440 yds flat— C. Wilson 1, Boss 2. Half mile— D. Reid 1. Halfmile cycling- Northover 11, Slight 2» Gibbons 3. These races ware not held under the management of the AthleticClub, although souie of tbeir officiate courteously assisted.
