WOOL AND PRODUCE MARKET.

The New Zealand Loan & Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report for the week ending sth November, 1897, as follows : —

Wool. — The sales now proceeding in Melbourne are reported to be very bnoyant. The attendance of American and Continental buyers is larger than heretofore, and bidding auimated. The opening prices for good sound wools showed an advance on last season's closing rates of 5 to 10 per cent, scoured parcels being in especially strong de maud. Faulty and low-grade wools do not; appear to command much attention from buyers, except at prices indicating a decline. Recent advices from Home are of a more hopeful nature, business in Bradford being very brisk. Daring the week several clips have come into store, and are being held for onr first sale of the season, which is fixed for the 19th inst. Should the weather remain favourable for the ensuing fortnight, we should have a fairly large catalogue to offer buyers.

Skins— This being an off week we hare no transactions to report. Oar next fortnightly Bale will be held on 12th inst., for which a considerable number of skins are coming forward.

Tallow. — Cable advices received on 4tb mat. report the Eoglinh market a ■hade firmer. Local transactions are on a limited scale, and prices show no improvement.

Hides — There is not much business passing in the local market. Wo, however, find a ready demand in other centres for all parcels coming forward, at prices which leave a good margin of profit to the shipper.

Oats— Market quiet, with little alteration in values. In consequence of the reported failure of some of the Australian crops, it need not be a matter for surprise if prices assume a firmer tone at aa early date.

Wheat — Good whole feed parcels meet with ready sale at last week's quotations, viz., 8s lOd to 4s, ex store, sacks extra.

Potatoes— There is still a heavy supply of old potatoes offering, and it is' difficult to effect sales. Prices are moat irregular, ranging from 95s to 45s per ton, accordins: to condition.

Maize — Market steady, with a fair demand. We quote 2s 5d to 2s 7d, sacks in.

Fungus— There is a fair enquiry, but price* have a tendency to lower range. We quote BJd to B|d for prime dry parcels.
