Manchester Road Board.

Tbe ordinary monthly meeting of the Manchester Road Board was held at tbeir office, Feilding yesterday. Pr« sent- Messrs W. G. Pearce, H. J. Booth D. Thomas, R. S. Rumble, J. Purkiss. In the absence of the chairman Mr Pearce was voted to the eh iir.

Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows: —

From W. Maxwell drawing attention to damage being done ty Mangaone stream near Bunnythorpe— Engineer to report.

From J. Jeffries, Bnnnythorpe, complaining of number of borons and cattle allowed to trespass on roaci. From Lands and Survey Department, warrant authorising this Hoard to re« erect portion of Aorang bridge and apportioning cost of same.

From W. Hazell, Bnnnytborpe, asking tbat drain in front of bis property be cleaned out.

From John Gartner asking for a refund of tbe £10 fine imposed on him in connection with the contract on Proc> tor's Hill.— No action take a.

From J. Orr, Asburst, asking that creek opposite his property be cleaned out, as it caused flood water to flow over his property.

From Treasury, voucher fot J!150, amonnt of Proctor's Hill loan.

From T. Peddie, complaining tbat culverts across tbe Valley road turned water on to bis property t.nd he asked that a drain be cut to abate tbe nuisance ; he also complained of the cattle allowed to wander on tbe road. Engineer to inspect Valley road and report at next general meeting.

From Palmerston Hospital and C.A. Board, askiDg for payment of .£221 10s 7d amoant dae by this JBoard for the current year.

From Goodbehere and Richmond, account fcr £25 12s Id for advice ia connection with and preparation of proposed new bye laws.

From the following requesting alteration of names on rate roll : — A. F. Behrendt, section 6, suburban, HaN combe ; W. Ferguson as occupier and D. Fleming as owner ia place of R. Linton, section 1, S.D. B, and part of section 2, S.D. B. -Alterations agreed to.

From G. C. Foster, ranger, asking tie Board to pay half cost of action he had taken in S.M. Court against a person, bat lost, costs being given against him. — Not entertained.

Resolved, That the clerk write to the railway engineer and point out that the culvert at Hazell'g crossing is too small and request that a larger one be put in. Resolved, That the Enpneer and Warden Rumble inspect the creek complained of by Mr Orr and report at next meeting.

Resolved (Thomas— Rumble) That the clerk lay on the table at next meeting the receipts and expenditure for working the punt at the Lower Gorge ferry frotu March 31st, 1895, up to September 30th, 1897.

Resolved, That a special meeting be held on Friday December 10, 1897, at 8 p.m., to confirm special order re Aorangi bridge.

Resolved, That public notice be given of the establishment of v pound in Afchurst. That applications be invited for the position of poundket per at AshurM. ; applicants to state whas they will give per annum or what percentage they v ill give of the takings.

Resolved, That G. C. Foster be notified that his appointment as ranger will cease on December 3, pending other arrange^ mente.

Resolved (Rumble — Thomas) That applications be invited for a ranger for the whole of the Manchester Road District, applicants to state (1) what thej will give per annum for the righ is of ranger ; (2) what percentage he will /»ive on the gross takings from same ; applications to b* in tho hands of the clerk of Manchester Road Board by November SO.

Mr Le Rrun, of tin; New Zealand Accident Insurance Company, waited on the Board and explained the provisions of the Employers Liability Act and urged this Board to insure the ir employees in his company.

No action was taken, but members expressed themselves in favor of the in* su ranee and will further deal with the question at next meeting

Resolved, That 7s a day be paid to roadman employed for less than six dAji and 6s a day if employe* 1 over that time*

Mr Pearce reported having attended with the deputation whijh waited on the Government in connect on with the request for subsidies townrds the re-con* struction of bridges destroyed by flood, and that the Minister had promised the Government would consider the applica* tion.

Accounts were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned.
