TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Allow me to express my satisfaction at the prosperous appearance of this settlement. The crops and grass are growing luxuriantly. The fruit trees also look very promising. The factory is already receiving a large quantity of milk daily. I see the company have the timber on the ground for the new creamery, the erection of which was authorised by the late annual meeting of shareholders. There is a rumour Afloat that some of the residents are intending, if possible, to get a brewer's license. Now this seems to be another attempt to grossly violate the feelings of the great majority of the respectable settlers of the district. It is to be hoped that a strenuous effort will bo made by this majority to prevent the entrance of what may prove a greater source of mischief than ever a public house. A protest should be made to the proper authorities at once against such license. It seems passing stranger that with all the evidence of prosperity abounding on every hand there should be such a difficulty on the part of storekeepers and others in getting in their accounts. Reliable rumour hath it that even settlers apparently in a good position socially, financially and religiously, who receive large monthly cheques for their milk, can't or won't pay their accounts in anything like reasonable time.
