Feilding School Committee.
Tlic ordinary monthly meeting of the Feilding School Committee was held last evening. Present — Messri W. Carthew (chairman), F. F. Huggitt (secretary), E. Goodbebere, W. G. Hay bittle, J. Taylor, C. Bray, jnnr. Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows : — From A. J. Milson, an apology for unavoidable absence. - Accepted. From General Manager N. Z. Railways, a circular with reference to pupiln' and teachers' season tickefci. From Education Board, Wanj;anni, stating that capitation amonntiag to £12 4s Id for the last quarter had been remitted to the Committee* credit ; tbat Miss A. Carter had been directed to join the school as relieving teacher after the Christmas holidayi ; alar, that Mr S. Campbell has been appoint id to the school ; also, that the Committee's recommendation with reference to A. Haybittleand A. Trevena could not be entertained ; that the Board trnd no funds for metal and tbat it wat usual for nchool committees to pay freight and cartage on furniture for schools. From Marton School Committee enquiring if this committee bad any assistance from Borough Council-— Reply sent that this committee had not. From the headmaster (Mr Hill; a report stating the average atUndat cc for the month was 359. With reference to the bell. Mr Stewart had cbargn of it and he (the headmaster) was very much pleased with bis punctuality in the matter. As to Mr Franklin Browne's charges, he (Mr Hill) had enquired into this matter at the time, three oir four mouths ago ; it was proved (1) thai; there was not a particle of evidence that any cap, Sec, had been taken ; (2) tbat H. E. Franklin-Browne bad utterly neglected to carry oat either of the two rules of the school in the matter— these rnles were (1) every cap, coat &c, to have the Dame of owuor marked on it, (2) every pupil has permission if he so chouses to take his cap, dinner &c , into school and put it in his bag, pocket or desk, (3) tbat it was due to the boy's neglect tbat he lost his cap. With reference to eh ildren being detained after school houn there was a rule which provided that when a teacher of a class left the school, every child in tbat class is at liberty to leave. Kesolved, Tbat Mr Franklin-Erowne he informed of the Headmaster's report re missing articles. The question of endeavoring t) have thin school made a District High School wan discussed, and it was rosol ved :— That this committee apply to the Wangacui Education Board to have this school constituted a High School. Mesrs Fry and Letb bridge will be aiked to give this motion their support. M r Hill, who was present by request, guve his opinions on the matter and supported the proposal. Mr Taylor, a member of the visiting committee, gave a verbal report on a visit to the school. Messrs Haybittle and Haggitt were appointed a visiting committee for the enuuing month. It was resolved tbat the Headmaster be aßked to arrange an entertainment in aid of the prize fund. — Mr Hill said he bad the matter in hand already. It was decided to apply for some locks for tbe school residence and the meeting adjourned.
