Unimproved Rating.
The adjourned meeting of ratepayers of No. 5 Ward of tbe Manchester Road District was held in the Town Hall, Bunnythorpe, on Saturday evening. The meeting was fairly well attended, and Mr D. Matbieson was voted to tbe chair.
At Mr Mathieson's request Mr Pearce (Warden) addressed tbe meeting, fully explaining tbe system of rating on the unimproved value. Mr Fearce considered tbat by adopting tbe system a considerable amount would be saved in cbari table aid, at present tbe Board paid 5s 6d in tbe £100 in charitable aid. but by adopting tbe unimproved rating tbe Board would pay much less. Mr Aldricb watt decidedly in favour of giving the new system a trial, and he moved tbat thii meeting in in favour of the ouly fair and just way of rating, viz., on tbe unimproved value. Tbe motion was seconded by Mr Masters, and carried unanimously.
It was also decided to have a petition drawn up and circulated amongst the ratepayers for tbeir signatures, ultimately to be forwarded to the Board, uskiug tbetn to take a poll of the ratepayers ou tbo subject. A vote of thauks was accorded to Mr Pearco for bis attendance and exj»lana» tion. aud a similar compliment to tbe Chairman terminated tbo meeting. — Standard.
