The South Australian Register, commenting on George GirTen's retirement, while recognising his great merits as a cricketer, and the splendid service he has dono for the colony, says that even champion players are not indispensable ; while Gifien hks done much for South Australian cricket, cricket has don? morn for Giffen. It adds that the South Australian Eleven for nonio time past hns not been the one man team it once was. and Giffen's withdrawal will serve to stimulate the young players to do their utmost to obtain a worthy prominence. The newspapers suggest that Mr Stoddart should cable to the Cape for Brown, the Yorkshire professional, to proceed to Australia with tbe view of strengthening the batting department ot bis team. The Standard, commenting on the South Australian match, says tbe absence of Giffen is intensely disappointing to English cricketine circles.
