The Weather.
Captaiu Edwin wired at noon to day : —Wind between N.W. and W. and S. at all places. Barometer ti«e everywhere, but fall again soon. Westerly gales and rain are to be expected at all places soutb of East Cape, Taupo and New Plymouth. October is usually a trying month so far as the weather is concerned, but this year has constituted a record. A persistent low temperature, with strong gales, vain — and at times hail — has greatly retarded the growth of feed, aud kept shearing operations hack. Yesterday a furious gale prevailed the whole day. The glas.< is now rising. We are paying dearly for iJw mild winter we experienced.
