At the half yearly communication of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Now Zealand it was announced a letter had been received from tho Secretary of the United Grand Lodge of England stating there was no reason why recognition of the New Zealand Constitution should not be formally declared after Sept., 1897. It was reselved the office of the Grand Lodge be moved to Chriitchurch on April next. The half yearly communication of the Grand Lodge of Freemasons, New Zea land Constitution, waa opened at the Freemasons' Hall, Princes street, and is the largest gathering at a Masonic function held in the city. A deputation consisting of niue mem bers of the House waited on the Premier and Minister of Justice, and urged that ex Chief Detective Henderson, of Christ church, should be granted an enquiry before a Magistrate into the charges which led to his dismissal from the force.
