TRUTH WILL TKEVIIL. NO one will question the accuracy of ! the Customs letums. A papc laid before Parliament this week furnishes a table of the coßsumption of articles in common usp, which is start* ling until the surrounding circumstances are considered, and the reason only strike* oae like the flash ot su electric searchlight. The consumption of Sugar and Tea for the the two past years, and the duty paid per head of population, is stated thus : — Lbi Duty Total lbs used, per head, per head Sugar, 1895,65,068,960 88 5 3j B^d Sugar, 1896, 67.395.84J 89*4 3* 8 J i Increaie ... 1,826 880 9 Ojd Tea, 1895, 4,472,528 604 2s «-}d Tea, 1896, 4,431,480 588 Is 11 id ' Decrease ... 41,048 16 7H : It seems incredible that while the people uted more sugar they should consume less Tea. The explanation is that the China and Indian Teas are rapidly going out of consumption, and the Brits ish product, grown in Ceylon, is very properly taking their place. Foremost among Ceylon Teas stands the UNRIVALLED SDRATUBA. and although there hare been doubts cast upon the claims that hare been made for lt.B STRENGTH and WONDSBPUL KOONOMT, the official testimony that 41,048 fewer pounds of T«a have proved sufficient for an increase of population of 13,317 in the 1896 period is too convincing to admit of further question. SURATURA TEA is not blended with Indian or China tens, nor is it handled from the time it leaves the stores in Ceylon until it reaches the consumer. Reflect and consider what you are ! losing annually by usin^ ordinary tea. A.«k your grocer for, and insist upon having, SURaTURA, and no other, EMPIRE COMPANY'S SUPERIOR BLENDED TEAS. FIRST PROM THE INCEPTION. FOREMOST KVEk SINCE. NOT A LITTLE Of the phenomenal snecwas of THE EMPIRE TEA COMPANY has baen due to the marvelous amount of care lavished on the smallest detail by the Management . From the inception of the Company to the present time there has been exhibited a policy of attention alike to great things and small, no trifle being too minnt n to receive its full share of consideration. True, the utiform excellence of the Blends supplied has had something to do with the Company 'a prepress, but that and the consistent improv ment of the Teas are but evidences of the splendid management, which is really the keystone of the altogether unique position the Company cccu pies to-day.
