The Great Engineer's Strike-

(Per Press Association.) Paris, October 23. The Socialist members of the Chamber of Deputies have appealed to the French workmen to assist the English strikers. Rome, October 38. The Italian Socialists hay* decided to grant assistance to the English striken. Wellington, October 23. A mass meeting in sympathy with the locked oat engineers in Great Britain was held last night on the Reclaimed Land. The Premier wrote apologising for bis inability to be present and enclosing a cheque in aid of the fund. Sir K. Stout and Messrs J. Hatcbesou and Wilson, M.'s.H.R., and sereral others delivered addresses. Sir R. Stout suggested that a month of self denial tihonld be arranged, during which the workers throughout the colony should abstain from the use of liquor and tobacco. On the basis of the official statistics he calculated this would result in the raising of £40,000 to £50,000 to nend Home. A resolution was passed expressing sympathy and support with the locked-out engineers and a collection was taken up to swell the fund which is being raised to assist them. Christcrorch, Oct. 24. A demonstration was held this afternoon in Uagley Park in support of the locked out English engineers. About 6000 people were present. A collection was taken up in aid of the Jocked»out engineers. A letter was read from Binbop Julius expressing sympathy and forwarding a donation. Auckland, October 23. At a meeting of the Auckland Eight Hours' League it was unanimously resolved " That this League, while deploring the existence of the strike of engineers in England, co operate with the Tradcß aud Labour Council in calling a public meeting for the purpose of taking steps to assist the engineers in the Old Couutry, who are now struggling for eight hours a day."
