(Per Press Association.) Melbourne, October 20. After 300 to 100 was taken about Amberite for the V.R.C. Derby 5 to 2 was the beßt offer against him. Aurum has receded slightly, and is quoted at 7 to 4 on. The following prices were accepted about the Melbourne Cup : — 800 to 100 agst Positano, 1000 to 1 10 Aurum, IWO to 90 Ayrshire, 1000 to 60 Toreador, Fucilc, 500 to 25 Trent. ParfchenopjEUs was submitted for sale to-day. The bidding opened at oOOgs ; Samuel Allen, bookmaker, securing him for 700gs. Vigorous was passed in at 257g5. Mr Allan states he intends sending ParthenoptEus to England. Straight out betting over the V.11.C. Meeting is stagnant, but some heavy business has been recorded in doubles over the Derby Cup ; 5000 was booked against Aurum and Toreador, 5000 Amberite and Ayrshire, 4000 Amberite and Toreador, 3000 Amberite and Trent, 2000 Aurum and Positano.
