WOOL SALES. (Per Press Association.) London, October 10. At the wool sales an inferior selection was offered to day, with a dragging sale though good qualities are fairly firm in | price. THE STOCK MARKET. j Mr Matthew Henry's report on the live stock trad* is as follows :- -Durinp tho wtek sales were conducted at both Pahiatua and Palmerston. At the former the entry of cattle wan in excess of those advertised. The sheep were not equal to advertised numbers, the heavy rainfall preventing some coming forward. Tb« attendance was good, and all the sheep were quitted, bar in one lot. Although bidding was slow at auction, considerable business was done during the day. At Palmerston the supplies were somewhat equivalent to advertised numbers. A good many buyers were present, and prices for sheep were rather better for lines which commended th«mselves to the public. Cattle sold rather more freely, although there was not much improvement in value. Subjoined are quotations: — Pahiatua — Cattle- Syr steers, i.'3 ; 2yr steers, £2 10s ; 18mos steers and heifer*, £1 I' 2« 6d ; yearlings, £1 to £1 -* 6d ; waaners, small. 10s to 15s ; dairy cows, L 3 10a ; springing heifers, LBssto L 3 10i. Sheep— 4 tooth wethers, 9s ; forward ewes, 8a 6d ; hoggets, 5a 9d, 9e 3d, Bs. Palmerston — Cattle— 3 to 4yr steers, L 3 6s ; fat cows, L 3 16s ; springing heifers, L 5 ; dairy cows, L 5 17s 6d ; weaners, 13s to 17s. Sheep— Fate wea, 10s ; ewes in lamb, 9s. Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Co.'s Wanganui stock report is as follows : — We had a good entry of stock at Wav«rley. Bidding for cattle was very dull. Sheep sold up to current rateit. At St. Hill street the competition for sheep was also keen, and sold all that came forward. Pigs maiatained their value. We quote :— Cattle —At Wavorley — Springing heifers, L 3 lid ; 18 months old cattle, 21s to 30s ; weanern, 10s to 15s. Sheep— At Waverley — Good forward wethers, 12s Id ; ewes and lambs, 10s 3d ; fat ewes, 9a 3d ; hoggets, 6s to Bs. At St. Hill street— Wethers, 10s to 10s lOd : hoggets, 6a 7d, 7s 2d up to 8s 3d ; culls, 5s 3d. Pigs- Large pork, 23a to 27s 6d ; porkers, 14s 6d to 16s 9d ; small pigs, 7s 6d to 15s. Poultry— Fowles, Ss to 4s ; ducks, 2s 6d to 3s 6d ; turkeys, 5s 6d to 9s 6d the couple, Messrs A. G. Tame and Co. report »n tbeir horse sale on Saturday lati : — The entry was composed of medium harness horses, hacks, and a good few traps. The attendance was large and bidding fairly brisk. We sold the greatei|part of the entry under the hammer at the following prices: — Medium and aged harness horses, £9 ss, £S 15s, JLB sa, £1 15s ; good grey harness pony, Xl 2 ; polo pony, £8 sa; hacks, i>'3 to £5; saddles, bridlea and harness all sold well.
