To Stand this Season in the Fkilding and Banoitikei Distbicts, The Thoroughbred Horse, HANDSOME JACK (Foaled 1890). HANDSOME JACK is a seven-year old, stoatljsbuilt bay horse, .»tanding 15 hands 3 inches high. As his name indicates, he i 9 a handsome horse, and so fashionably bred that he is well worthy the attention of breeders. The stoutest strains of the English and colonial thoroughbred blood is blended in this horse's pedigree. It would ar« pear almost unnecessary to refer further than to his tabulated pedigree undermentioned, but the family he has descended from are so rich in winnine blood that the owner may be pardoned for jnst mentioning a few facts perhaps not generally known. Bactiant, who never raced, is by that stoutly*bred sire Robinson Crusoe, whose mares are so highly thought of by Australian breeders, and as Badiant is from Eadianci? this makes the r)am of Hand" some Jaok full sister to those fast horses Quadrant and Cruiser (sire of the Bang L. tikeibred Lorelei). Robinson Crusoe (sire of Radiant) is full brother to that stud gem Onyx (dam of Nordenfeldt*, and Radiance (dam of Badiant) is by Fireworks (sire of The Mute, who is sire of the Grand National Steeplechase winner, Mutiay, and and the Grand Natioual Hurdle Bace winner, Dummy, last year), while Sunshine (dam of Radiance), is also dam of 3unri«e, a very successful stallion in New South Wale-. A glance at St. Hippo's pedigree, who is considered by good judges to bo one cf the best horses seen in New Zealand cf late years, will show that Handsomb Jack has really a better pedigree, as he shows the valuable strnin of Mnribyr* nong blood, which is absent from St. Hippo's pedigree. Both horses are closely related on blood lines. . . ! 'Irish Hire!- Sir Hrrcules ! „ The : tat<; her Guiccoli - Haroii Ki-onomi^t '£ (Echidna _ M, us. Handsome Jack's full brother, Lu9tre, won the Dunedin Selling Race, 100 sors, also the Dunedin Federal Stakes of 200 soys, 6 furlongs, 7 0, in 1.18, beating Saracen, Bay Bell, Kulnine, Pique, and Whakawatea. Breeders must come to the conclusion, after perusing the abore particulars, that they are fortunate in ha\mg so highly a bred young horse, and one so closely re« lated to all the best and most valuable strains cf blood to be found in Austral* asia.
