Major Steward has a Bill which provides that mortgages may be effected without the cost of expensive deeds or legal document". Mr John Hutcheson, senior member for Wellington, yesterday presented a petition to the House on behalf of Mr £. G. Jellicoe, who prayed that a committee might be set up to enquire into the accuracy of the allegations made by Sir Robert Stout in regard to the release of the ex-convict Chemis during his speech on the Address in-Reply. The Speaker ruled that he could not accept a petition traversing the speech of a member of the House. Mr Graham: "I don't believe the hon. member for Patea has any personal knowledge of Bushy Park." Mr Pirani : " He was invited to go down there." (Laughter.) Mr Graham : " Yes, I remember now that the Minister of Lands did invite him to go down, but he didn't accept it." (Renewed laughter.) Mr Joyce is to ask the Premier if the Government will terminate Worthington's Sunday pantomimics in Christchurch by promoting legislation to empower the City Council to cancel, or hold in abeyance for at least 12 months, the license of any ball of entertainment upon the petition of a given number of citizens that the platform exhibitions of such a character as Worthington is dis tasteful to them and against peace and g«od order.
