News has been received of the death on the Contineat of Captain Anodeo, one of the best known skippers of Auckland. The Collector of Customs states that another month has been granted for vessels carrying oil engines in which they may continue without the services of a certificated engineer. Birch, lately manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Timarn, but who, on account of ill-health, is residing in Oamaru, wan made the recipent of a purse of lovereigns and a handsome illuminated address to-day from the business people of Timaru. A railway platelayer named Richard Kelly died under chloroform to-day. He had a fit, and fell and dislocated his shoulder, and was put under chloroform to replace it, and he died under the influence of tho drug. He had been on the sick list for some time.
