The Native Rebellion in India.
((Per Press Association. Calcutta, October 5. A report from Bombay states that Damedar Cbapekar, a Brahmin advocate, confessed having murdered Rond and Ayerst, Government plague officials. He also confesses having tarred the Queen's statue in Bombay. He declares he systematically dogged Rond and killed Ayerst because be witnessed the murder of Rond, Tbe police are searching for his accomplice. On Sunday last Col. Jeffrey's Brigade attacked a strongly fortified place in the Mabmund valley. He destroyed tbe forts and carried tbe heights. On the colum retiring to camp great numbers of tribesmen surrounded tbe position and under perfect cover poured a heavy fire upon the brigade. Tbe casualities on the part of tbe British however, were not serious.
