Awahuri Notes
1 q mm | From our own correspondent. | The Awahuri Dairy Company has been fortunate in striking, on Saturday last, a big flow of artesian wt.ter at a depth of 30ft. It is believed to be of the very best quality procurable, although this will be determined in a day or bo when it has been exposed to the action of the air. A short time ago the Company put down a pipe and got a fair flow, but, as it has turned out to bo slightly what is termed "irony," it was decided to try and strike the tame seam from which Mr Satherley's well flows, and it is believed they are successful. All the artesian wells in the vicinity, with tho exception of Mr Satherley's, are more or less "irony," and leavo a scum on top, especially after being exposed to the air for a day or so. Mr Satherley's, howovor, is as clear as crystal days after it lias been allowed to remain iv ft vessel. It is a peculiar fact that Mr Satbedey has another artesian well not more than two chaiDS away and about tae same depth, which is much inferior in quality. Mr Satherly was good enough to allow the Company to drive on bis la ad about four chains from the factory, free of charge. A Maori " King " has appeared in Awahuri in the shape of a native who bas " fell in " for a " lump " of money. Pie is besieged with the offers of other natives to sell horses, etc. but they don't seem to suit him. The Awahuri Dairy Companj' hope to start operations in about two weeks' time.
