Perfect weather favored the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club for the opening day of their Spring Meeting. A large attendance. The course is in fair order, though a bit holding at the back. Results : —
October Handicap — Vedette 1, Cceur de Lion 2, Douglas 3. Won with ease by several lengths. Time, lmin 594 sec. Dividend, JE4 18s.
Handicap Hurdles — Prince Charlie 1, Melinite 2, Golden Plover 3. Mairua was scratched. Won easily. Time, 3min aasec. Dividend, £2 Bs.
