Birmingham Cricket Club.

The adjourned meeting of the Birmingham Cricket Club was held in the Druid's Hall last Saturday evening, Mr A. Dick in the chair. About twenty members and supporters of this game wore present.

The Secretary submitted his report, which was a lengthy one, but briefly was as follows : —

As the result of a great effort the club had acquired a pround as their sole property on which a pitch had been put down at an extra expense of between £5 and JG6. Visiting clubs were always complaining; of the want of a turf pitch, but the complaint in the future will be removed, as tho pitch promises to be equal to most in the Union. A commodious pavillion is being erected and will be completed by the commencement of the season, so the ground and fixtures bid fair to be exceedingly satisfactory. One cause of regret is contained in the report and that -s the very lengthy list of non-paid-up members, a defect that it is hoped in the ensuing season will be substantially remedied. Members cannot expect to have the use of the club's material and also to have re presentation in the club's team at the paid up members' expense. The club have loet severed good useful members, ! but several new ones have fortunately I filled up the gap that was likely to b» caused therefrom, and the club hopes to hold the position and, if possible, to im* prove it, that it has held three years consecutively in the contests for cap championship honors. The balance sheet shows the expenditure to be £12 99 3d, receipt! I'l4 7s 9d, leaving a credit balance of XI 19j Gd. The report end balanoe-shaet were adopted. The election of officers resulted : — Mr A. Dick, President ; Vice-Presidents. Messrs C. A. J. Levett, J. Bailey, E. O'Meara, G Shannon, A, C. Matbtson ; Captain, Mr A. 11. Torupkins ; Secretary, Mr H. Mclntyre ; Treasurer, Mr J. W. Bnrne ; match comniitte*, The Captain, Secretary, Treasurer, and Mr Barlow ; Ground Comnaitjee, The Captain, Secretary, Treasurer, and Messrs Matheson, A. Dick, Barlow, and Hansen.

The subscription was fixed at 7s 6d. Thursday afternoon was fixed as the weokly practice day which all members are requested to largely attend. A challenge from the Apiti Club was received, tbe natch to be played on Saturday, Oth October, at Birmingham. A considerable amount of discussion arose over a second eleven, as tbe cup matches almost totally exclude tbe young members from getting any games in matches, as tbe first fourteen members are the only ones who can hope to play in cup fixtures, which does not give much eucocragement to would bo aspirants. Tbe Secretary, Mr H. Melutyro undertook to try and encourage cricket and arrauge matches for the second class players. The usual voto of thauks terminated the proceedings.
