The Women's Christian Temperance Union.
(Pec Press Association.) Wellington, Sept. 20. At a meeting held nnder the auspices , of the Women's Christian Temperance Union to formulate a scheme for the , suppression and prevention of vice among young girls, the following resolutions were passed : — 1. That a committee be formed to rescue young girls from the streets, and that application be made to the Minister of Justice with a view to getting a supply of badges by which the rescue } officers would be recognised by the Department of Justice. , 2. That the Government be requested to grant a subsidy to enable homes to be built and maintained for the reformation of girls who have been rescued. 9 3. That we consider parents who are i guilty of negligence and carelessness in y the control of their children should be liable to punishment. 4. That it is desirable that measures should be taken to prevent overcrowding of dwellings, which is responsible for much of the vice and juvenile depravity y which exists in this town. 6. That this meeting form itself into a committee for the development of plans for a Girls' Home or Institute.
