THE PUBLIC HOUSE QUESTION.

(TO THE EDITOR) Sir, — I am obliged to Mr Diokwra for the information given re publican's liability. Of coarse that is from a publican's point of view, and I doubfc much ■ if it would stand valid if brought to the test. If it is the law, then it throws to > the winds all preconceived ideas on the subject. I tbiuk the cencemas of opinion for ages has been that any person—or at least a policeman on behalf of tliat person— can demand lodging, provided they are able to pay for it and ; beds are available, at any hoar of the day or night. If not, then licensed houses are not the public benefit I ; thought they were. Before closing I would ask Mr Dickson if he will kindly inform me why hotels barn an outside light all night ? I am, &a, R. F. Haybittlk.
